What a waste of spinal anaesthesia...

Am oncall today (yes..on my birthday!!).Took over the bleep at lunch time after munching down my roast lamb and cabbage. Was told that a patient is going to the theater for an EUA (examination under anaesthesia) because she has a LARGE (maybe 8 cm by 8 cm )haematoma (blood clots) on her right vaginal wall, seen earlier by another SpR.

Went to theater, anaesthetist registrar took about 45 minutes trying to insert the spinal. Failed. Consultant came in... took another about 15 minutes and finally manage to put the patient to ease. Then up goes the legs onto the stirups... and to my surprise, the LARGE haematoma decribed to me by the midwife was merely 3cm by 3 cm in diameter and probably would not need any evacuation at all. Anyways, since already in theater, i completed the suturing and repair in less than 5 minutes.

What a waste.....
